The records we have on the Tatters are inscriptions from the family bible. These are, in their entirety from that region:
Samuel Tatter b. 1830, married Julia ?. Samuel died 1896. Not sure where he was born, but most likely, Lu'bica.
Ludwig Tatter born 1853 Leibic (Lu'bica); wife Amalie Paulovics born 1855 Kesmark. Lu'bica is a small town adjacent to Kesmark. Ludwig was a merchant sellling bibles throughout historic Hungary: Felvidek (Slovakia), Karpatalja, Erdely (Transylvania) and Budapest.
Gustav Tatter b. 1880, Kesmark. (came to USA early 20th c.)
Helen Tatter b . 1878, Kesmark (married George Leffanty) says she came to USA but later--1930's.
Also, not from bible: Johann Tatter, 1830's, born Lu'bica: listed on Baptist Church site as the first Anabaptist in the Felvidek. We don't have definite confirmation on his being a family member, but surname and location is the same. All of the Tatters were Baptists from Ludwig on and probably before (or Lutheran possibly). I met an American minister at the Baptist church there, but he was new and did not know where the records were. He was aware that there were still Germans in his congregation, and he was who told me that the Lutheran church still says one service in German. I should probably write to him, but I lost his name and contact information!
"Lengyel" is not a surname in our family (although I do realize it can be a surname), what I meant to say was that Amalie Paulovics was from the "Polish Nobility" ("Lengyeli nemes" in Hungarian).
I'm curious, where did you get the info on the other "Samuel"?
I am also quite excited, odds are the "Palovic'" listing is probably a relative!
